2007 Alumni Hall of Fame

Each year Troy Christian Schools recognize former students and graduates of outstanding achievements. We look for those that have followed the call God has placed upon their lives; those that seek higher knowledge in their specific field of study; and those that strive for excellence in all that they do.

The Quest of Knowledge is awarded to Teresa Barker. Teresa attended Troy Christian Schools through 8th grade.  At that time we did not have the high school available. It was through her many mission trips to a Native American reservation in Canada and to Mexico with Teen Mania that initiated her goal of becoming a medical doctor and her dream has become a reality.

Teresa graduated from Olivet Nazarene University. She served in the Philippines for seven months in medical missions and attended seminary. After graduating from Olivet with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, she attended medical school in Dominica in the Caribbean.  Teresa’s clinical were completed in Miami, Florida and Chicago, Illinois.  During medical school Teresa was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that complicated her life but did not stop her from completing medical school. She finished her medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine. Teresa begins three years of residency in Family Medicine at  Washington Hospital in Washington, PA this June. Her goal is to serve in a practice in a small community in Ohio and to be involved in medical outreaches that focus on communities or populations that have limited access to medical care.

Teresa’s mother is Mrs. Joyce Barker Bedell who was teacher at Troy Christian for 14 years.

The Quest of Knowledge is presented to Jennifer Jung Hartwell.  Jenny attended Troy Christian through 8th grade. At that time the high was not available. She is a graduate of Miami University with a major in Zoology and a minor in Sociology. While she attended Miami, she was the President of the American Medical student Association.

Jenny married Scott Hartwell from Troy and taught Jr High and High School chemistry, biology and physics in Tennessee while studying for her medical school entrance exams. They moved back to Ohio and Jenny attended Wright State University and graduated in the top third of her class from medical school in 2005. She now lives in Chicago and is in the middle of her surgical residency at the University Illinois-Chicago and was presented the Clinical Teaching Award in 2005-2006. Jenny will graduate from residency as General Surgeon and plans to pursue specialized fellowship training in trauma and critical care, which is a two year program.  She should complete that training in 2012 and then she will a board certified Trauma Surgeon. She is currently a Resident Member of the American College of Surgeons and was published in American Journal of Surgery in January of 2007.

Jenny served at the health Partner’s clinic in Troy for two years. She has also been to Jamaica on a medical mission trip and looks forward to God continuing to use the gifts that he has given her to His glory in the field of medicine.

Jenny and Scott have three children: Jack, Allie and Ben and she is the daughter of John and Debbie Jung of Troy.
