EdChoice Scholarship

EdChoice Expansion Scholarship

House Bill 33 (HB33) is an education-related bill recently passed by the Ohio State Legislature and was just signed into effect by the governor. It is aimed at improving educational opportunities for students across the state. One significant aspect of this bill is the expansion of the EdChoice Scholarship Program, which affects the eligibility criteria and availability of scholarships for families seeking financial assistance to enroll their children in private schools, including Troy Christian Schools.
Under the new provisions of HB33, there have been notable changes in the EdChoice Expansion Scholarships that parents should be aware of. These changes include:
  1. Expanded Eligibility: The income-based eligibility threshold for the EdChoice Expansion Scholarships has been raised allowing more families to qualify for financial assistance. Scholarship amounts will be income-based. Students whose family’s income is at or below 450% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), or about $135,000 for a family of four, will be eligible to receive the full scholarship amount, and students whose family’s household income is above 450% FPL will be eligible for voucher amounts decreased on a sliding scale. We are including a chart for reference so that you can see if your family may qualify for this scholarship.
  2. Increased Scholarship Amounts: HB33 also includes an increase in scholarship amounts, providing families with more substantial financial support to cover tuition costs. The full scholarship amount for students in Kindergarten-8th grade would be $6,165 and $8,407 for high school students.
  3. HB33 increases the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship amounts.
  4. It qualifies any student with an autism diagnosis for the Autism Scholarship.
  5. They extended the deadline to apply for the scholarship to October 15th.
